Welcome to our family!
Although we fell in love with the Basset Hound breed many years ago, we only entered the world of showing and breeding top quality hounds in 2011. Our kennel is a small one, allowing our hounds, who are nothing less than our children, to stay in our home with us. They love to sit on our laps and to take naps in our bed, as you can see on our The Bassefied life page. We spoil them, love and adore them and they bless us with so much laughter and joy on a daily basis. For this reason, to share the happiness of this fantastic breed with others in pet and show homes, we started the Bassefied kennel.

South African Champion Hester Moravia Bray of Bassefied (aka Hester), from van Grunsven, Swede Sun and Della Luna Caprese bloodlines, is imported from the Moravia Bray kennel in Czech Republic. Her show career started in 2013. She is a talker who gives love and kisses in excess.
Our imported boy, South African Champion Fanfan Orvisnik of Bassefied (aka Frank), comes from the Orvisnik kennel in Slovakia. He is bred from del Galavrone, van Hollandheim and Klan Sycylijczykow bloodlines. He entered the show rings in July 2013. Frank is a lazy hound, he prefers belly rubs and naps on our laps.
South African Champion White Whoopi van Grunsven of Bassefied (aka Whoopi), our imported girl from the Netherlands, from kennel van Grunsven, joined our family at the end of 2014. Her World Winner van Grunsven and Swede Sun bloodlines make her future in our kennel very exciting! She loves to play with tennis balls.
South African Champion Rabbithunter Rocco van Grunsven of Bassefied (aka Rocco), also from the van Grunsven kennel in Holland came to South Africa in October 2015. Bred from van Grunsven and Swede Sun bloodlines, his future as stud and showman is bright! Another big boy that loves attention and affection.
In March 2016 our D-litter were born and we decided to keep a puppy from this litter, welcoming Bassefied Dete into our hearts and home.
Then South African Grand Champion Smart Lady od Berounky of Bassefied (aka Ivah), imported from the od Berounky kennel in Czech Republic, joined our family. Bred from van Grunsven, Bassbarr, Queen's Hermelin and Bohemia Horrido lines this girl brings everything we still need in our kennel. And she really is smart, very intelligent, quick to learn and eager to please.
From our F litter, born June 2018, we kept Bassefied Fransiska. This little girl is dynamite and made her show debut in 2019 with a Best Puppy In Show and Reserve Best Puppy In Show wins. She is currently also the only basset in South Africa with a Junior Merrit title.
Princess Dete the magnificent blessed us with a wonderful litter of puppies Bassefied Isak stayed in our home. Isak is a lover boy, soft natured.
In 2020 we achieved another first for basset hounds in South Africa, when the first frozen artificial insemination basset hound litter was born in our home. From CH Ure My Dandy van Grunsven and our CH Bassefied Fransiska JM, we kept Bassefied Katinka. She doesn't only have a pedigree filled with promise, but she already shows it too.
Our last import from Czech Republic is Bisquit, Bisquit od Brounky of Bassefied. Half-sister to Ivah, she is a big boned girl, full of substance and quality. We're very excited about her future in our breeding program.
But the actual ruler of the entire household is Princess Mia Meraai, our cat.

In 2015 we were introduced to the Italian Spinone breed, and we fell in love with them. So in 2016 we welcomed South African Grand Champion Kirsuda Sorella Umberto of Bassefied into our home. He is very caring, soft natured and such a joy in our home. In 2017 he was joined by South African Champion Stannamore Antolyza Eliza of Bassefied, imported from the world famous Stannamore kennel in Holland. She is a clever girl with natural hunting instincts and loves life in our pack and family! From their second litter we kept Bassefied Gelato Fior di Latte. Her hunting drive and natural instinct is wonderful to witness. And she is a bit more of a lady than her tom boy mom. We're looking forward to seeing what the future hold for her in our kennel.
Welcome to life in the Groenewald house... We hope you'll see the love and blessing that these amazing dogs bring to our lives daily!
