Imported frozen semen puppies expected
We finally had another successful frozen semen artificial insemination in the basset hounds. It is the second successful frozen semen mating in the breed in South Africa, the first being our K-litter.
CH Bisquit od Berounky of Bassefied is expecting from Just Jason van Grunsven and/or Grandboy Moravia Bento. We did a dual sire mating. All puppies will be DNA tested for parentage.

On 11 Jan 2020 Overberg Kennel Club hosted 2 championship shows. At these shows our girls exceeded our expectations! Fransiska gained her over 18 month CC to qualify as a South African Champion. She will now be known as CH Bassefied Fransiska. And baby Gisela won Best Baby Puppy In Show and Reserve Best Baby Puppy In Show! We are so proud of them!

The first Grand Champion basset hound in South Africa is a Bassefied!
WOW! What a great achievement this is! In May 2019 ZAW'17 CH Bassefied Eben, aka Basjan, was declared the first basset hound grand champion in the country! This took a lot of hard work, dedications and many kilometers driving to shows, so we want to thank his owners, Jacoline and Danie!

Natural Ability titles for Umberto and Lucia
On 17 February 2019 Umberto and Lucia participated in the KUSA Natural Ability Tests. Both of them passed this test. This means that Umberto is the first Spinone in South Africa to have dual titles on his registration certificate, i.e. breed show champion CH, and field trials NA. This is Lucia's second achievement in field trials. We're extremely proud of team "Spin-One"!

Lucia passes her first hunting test!
On 8 October 2018 Lucia participated in the SAVHDA Junior Versatile Hunting Test and passed with 105 points, prize 2. This makes her the first spinone in South Africa to complete the test and the only spinone who excels and achieves in breed shows and in field work.

On 2 June 2018 we participated in the KUSA Nationals event in Bloemfontein. Ivah was awarded the title of KUSA National Basset Hound 2018, as well as Reserve KUSA National Hound Puppy 2018. Euvani was awarded Reserve KUSA National Basset Hound 2018. This from a line up of 7 Champion Basset Hounds, from all over South Africa, including the 2017 KUSA National Basset Hound and ZAW'17 dogs.
Not to be outdone by his short-legged family members, Umberto was awarded KUSA National Spinone Italiano 2018 and ZAW'18 titles.

Since we started showing in December 2012 (so almost 6 years) we've imported 5 bassets (and 1 spinone italiano), personally campaigned 8 to South African Champions, bred 7 that are in the rings of which 5 are Champions, with titles including BPIS, RBPIS, RBPISS, RBJIS, BJISS, RBJISS, BNIS, RBNIS and BEST IN SHOW wins at Championship shows. I think we can be very proud of ourselves and our Bassefied pack! And we're forever grateful to the international breeders who sold world class genetics to us.

After his Best In Show win (at an all-breeds Championship show) last weekend, Bassefied Etienne of Lagen aka Euvani did not hold back this weekend, taking 2 more CCs, a BOB and a RBOB, finishing his South African Champion title! At the Liesbeek Kennel Club Championship Show on 4 March 2018 under judge Mr G Thompson Bassefied Etienne of Lagen was awarded BEST IN SHOW! We have never before gone through to the In Show ring, and to win this was completely unexpected and something we will never forget! We are so proud of this boy, and thankful to Rudy and Riky Smits, who trusted us to be the owners of his imported parents, White Whoopi and Rabbithunter Rocco van Grunsven of Bassefied.

On 4 Feb 2018 Lucia went to her first show as a baby puppy and won the baby puppy gundog group! We are so proud of her, especially as she was out on field trials the day before, the complete opposite to the show ring, but she entered the ring like a pro. Cape October shows
Once again the Bassefied Show Team excelled at the Cape October shows, 14,15,20,21,22 October 2017! Our team consisted of Bassefied Dete who won two RCCs. Also Smart Lady od Berounky of Bassefied who walked away with four CCs, 1 RCC and a BJIG-3. The new kid on the block is Bassefied Etienne of Lagen, visiting from Johannesburg. On the first weekend he obtained two RCCs and a RBJIG. On the second weekend he was handled by Helen Theron and they made an exceptional team, roping in three CCs, one BOB, two RBOBs, one BJIG-3 and a RBJISS! And off course our Spinone Italiano, Umberto, also participated, with four CCs, three BOBs, one RBOB, one BJIG-3, one RBJIG, one BJIG and one RBJISS!
This then completes our 2017 show season, with only Western Cape Top Dog and Puppy event left, which Ivah and Umberto have qualified for. Next year we'll be back in the rings, with some new show team members!

It was the first time we travelled to East London for shows, and what an amazing weekend it was! Not only did our kids perform over and above our expectations, but the shows were so enjoyable, with great atmosphere and showmanship! Our first Best In Show win ever!
At the Oudtshoorn shows Ivah (Smart Lady od Berounky of Bassefied) exceeded all our expectations! Handled by our friend, Arina Fyfer, not only did they win the Hound Puppy Group on both days, but also Reserve Best Puppy in Show and Best Puppy in Show!
This is the second and third times a Bassefied hound has ever gone through to the In Show ring at all breeds championship shows. Previously Bassefied Adam Albertus won Reserve Best Junior In Show, and now Ivah earned her two new titles.

A weekend of ups and downs, or rather downs and ups! At the Breede Rivier Vallei Kennel Club Championship show under South African judge Ms D Lucas the Bassefied show team did not get anything. However, on Sunday we went from zero to hero winning RBPIG with Dete and BIG-4 with Rocco under Ms N Vzhyshnevska (Tai). This means that they have now qualified for the Western Cape Top Dog and Puppy invitational event! Bassefied De La Rey (aka Hank) went RCC Dog (from the minor puppy class) and stood second in puppy breed to his sister, Dete. And Bassefied Christel (aka Molly) was 3rd in the Minor Puppy Bitch class.

At the Bloemfontein Kennel Club Championship Show CH Rabbithunter Rocco van Grunsven of Bassefied placed 4th in the hound group, making him the first basset hound to achieve a main group placing in a Championship show thus far in 2016.

Planned matings
After careful consideration we have decided not to have any litters in 2017. We will use the year to show our D and E litter pups extensively. We will only have puppies in 2018 again, and at this stage we are planning 3 matings for then using our imported semen also.

On 29 March 2016 3 bi-colour boys and a tri-colour girl were born to Hester and Grandboy. What a rollercoaster ride this has been... First we though Hester was not pregnant, then we saw one heart beat on sonar, the x-ray revealed what looked like 6 or 7 puppies and in the end 5 were born, however little Bassefied Dewald did not survive.

On 8 February 2016 two beautiful big girls were born, Bassefied Charlotte, who weighed 558 gram at birth, and Bassefied Christel, who weighed 582 gram at birth. Both puppies are reserved.

Imported semen for our future breeding program
In 2014 we visited the van Grunsven kennel in Holland. In 2015 Rudy and Riky Smits agreed to export frozen semen to South Africa for use in the future breeding program of the Bassefied kennel. We are extremely honoured and excited to announce the arrival of Ure My Dandy van Grunsven and Just Jason van Grunsven in South Africa, in the form of frozen semen! We are hoping that the first puppies will be born in 2017.

Stunning results in PE shows!
Adam, Frank, Hester and Whoopi attended the shows in PE 3-5 April 2015. The Bassefied team home with 3x BOB, 3x RBOB, 6x CC, 6x RCC (we were the only bassets at the shows) and then group placings every day! Adam was BJIG-4, BIG-3, RBJIS and BJIS. Whoopi was BPIG-3 twice and also RBPIS! We are so proud!!!

On Sunday, 26 October 2014, Fanfan Orvisnik of Bassefied, aka Frank, obtained his 6th CC, of which 5 were under competition. He will now be declared as a South African Champion (pending KUSA certification). We are so proud of our boy and would like to thank his breeder, Dana Klukova in Slovakia, for sending him to us!

Cental South Africa Cluster Weekend championship shows in Bloemfontein
The Bassefied family travelled outside of Cape Town for the first time for shows. A long journey to Bloemfontein, where we competed against bassets from Johannesburg. At the 3 shows the Bassefied team obtained:

The biggest achievement was when Frank was awarded Best in Groep 4th under Australian judge, Ms E Knox! We are so proud of our kids!

4 days of shows, 4 days of achievements!!!
From 29-31 May 2014 our hounds competed in 3 championship shows. Frank got 2 CC's, 2 RBOB's and 1 RCC. Hester was awarded her second CC and BOB! Gabija received 2 RCC's and at the FCI show on 1 June she was graded EXCELLENT and awarded the reserve CACIB!
Unfortunately Frank was the only male on Thursday's show, so the CC he obtained we will not count towards is championship status as we believe in finishing a dog under competition.

Great show weekend
At the Championship shows in March 2014 our kids did so well! Frank got RCC on both days and Hester and Gabija both got their first CC's and were awarded RBOB.
Super achievements at show for Frank
At the Cape Town Kennel Club show on 20 Oct 2013 Frank was awarded his first CC under judge Ms L Tong from Singapore. He was also awarded the best of breed title. This at the age of only 9.5 months!

At the World Dog Show in Bundapest, Hungary, Big Ben Dominik was crowned as the 2013 Veteran World Winner, Best Veteran and Veteran Best of Day! He was also the 2012 Veteran World Winner. He is Gabija's great grandfather. Congratulations to his owner and breeder!!!

On 17 April 2013 Hester and Rupert attended the launch of the new Tommy Hilfiger shop in the V & A Waterfront. Hester, being used to the show world, loved all the attention. She handled herself like a real show princess. Rupert was a bit more reserved and kept an eye on his daddy the whole time. We had so much fun!
