Puppies from Bassefied
Our puppies are only available to homes where they will form part of the family in a homely environment. Our puppies are not available as kennel dogs.
Our puppies are raised in and around our home. They are interacted with daily. We play with each one and give love and attention to them individually and as a litter on a daily basis, from birth until they leave for their new homes. We introduce them to different toys and noises, helping them to grow and mature not only physically but also emotionally. We raise them as our own, to ensure that every new puppy owner receives an emotionally mature, well socialized, healthy and happy hound from us. Because we know the puppies very well, we match puppies to new homes, based on completed puppy application questionnaires. We do not allow new owners to choose puppies based on colour or pattern. This is in the best interest of the puppy, who will fit in well, and new family. In all the years we have not gotten it wrong yet. References are available on request.
We do our best to ensure our puppies are healthy when they leave for their new homes. Our puppies are dewormed every two weeks (from 2 weeks of age) and will receive all their required vaccinations. They receive a complete vet check-up before going to their new owners. A completed vet booklet is given to each new owner. All puppies are micro-chipped. We have tested our adult dogs for Lafora, and from matings where puppies will not be inherited clear, all puppies in the litter will be tested for Lafora.
Our puppies are registered with KUSA (Kennel Union of Southern Africa) under our registered affix, Bassefied. Breeding restrictions are placed on all our puppies.
We require pet puppies to be spayed / neutered.
If you cannot take care of your puppy, for what ever reason, in future we undertake to assist in finding a home for the puppy and to take the puppy (or adult basset) back if a suitable home could not be found. Bassets from our kennel should not go to rescues or shelters.
Bassets are large breed dogs. They are loving and needy for attention. They do love going for walks. Just like any other puppy, they will do naughty things too. Please make sure a basset will fit in with you, your family, personality and living conditions before getting one. You can read more about the basset hound breed on our About Bassets page.
